Why do I need a Bushfire Survival Kit?

Our premium bushfire survival kits are designed to assist you when evacuating during a bushfire emergency. If you're unable to evacuate, or if you choose to stay and defend your property, a bushfire survival kit may also be useful when facing some of the dangers a bushfire presents.

If you live or work on, or around, bushfire prone land, a bushfire survival kit is a must have. Make sure you're prepared, have a bushfire survival plan in place and be ready to leave. It may also a good idea to keep a bushfire survival kit in your vehicle if you are regularly travelling through or working in bushfire prone areas, or holidaying in a bushfire prone area.

After a bushfire emergency, you may need to survive on your own for several days. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other supplies to last for at least 72 hours. A bushfire survival kit is a collection of useful gear  to assist you during this time. The kit also offers safety information, checklists, and guides for additional household items that are not included in the kit, such as drinking water and food

How many Bushfire Survival Kits do I need?

The recommendation is one kit, per person. Why? For the simple reason that a household or group of people evacuating together may become separated during a bushfire emergency. For the best chance of survival, it's important that everyone has the gear they need, on their person at all times. One bushfire survival kit, per person, is your safest option.

In some cases, people may choose to share a kit, such as the kit they keep in their car. For this reason, we have created THE FIREPAK TRAVELLER. If you choose to share a bushfire survival kit with another person and need to customise the quantity of gear, you may also add additional items to your kit from Refills & Extras.

Can I purchase extra items or replace used items?

Yes. If you have used any of the items in your bushfire survival kit and need to replace them, you can refill those items instead of buying an entire new kit. If you feel that you need an additional quantity of any item, you can order extras with your purchase or at any other time. Items can be purchased in the Refills & Extras section of our online store, subject to availability.

Why don't we sell face masks for children?

We've made a decision not to sell children's-sized P2 / PM2.5 face masks for use in a bushfire emergency. A source that we found helpful in making our decision was Asthma Australia. They say "In consultation with our Professional Advisory Council (PAC), it has been advised that facemasks are not designed or suitable for children under the age of 14 years. Although some masks may be available in small sizes, it is unlikely that they will have a perfect fit and are therefore unlikely to be beneficial. A poorly fitted mask actually makes it harder to breathe which leads to the rebreathing of expired air (with high carbon dioxide levels) which can make you feel unwell and cause anxiety in children."
